LANSING – Ingham County Animal Control officials said they planned to seek neglect charges against the owner or owners of more than 30 cats and dogs seized Tuesday from a Lansing residence.

The agency said it received two complaints regarding pets at a Pierce Street address and went there with a search warrant, officials said in a news release.

They removed 25 cats and four dogs they said were living in unsanitary conditions, along with two dead cats.

"No animal deserves to live in the conditions we found these cats and dogs in," Deputy Animal Control Director Dan Verhougsraete said in the release. "Many will require medical treatment after living in these conditions and not being cared for properly."

The animals will be kept at the county shelter in Mason while the investigation continues, officials said.

The shelter is seeking donations of non-clumping cat litter and wet cat food to help care for the animals.
