A kitchen is a wonderful place filled with all kinds of amazing ingredients. Some of these six kitchen scraps are the perfect natural option for scenting your house.

Between citrus peels and warm spices, your home will smell fresh and wonderful all year long.  This is the cheaper and more healthy option. Not to mention that natural scents just always smell so much better!

Citrus peels are by far the most useful scrap item that you are going to find in your kitchen. Under no circumstances should you ever throw citrus peels away ! They are incredibly useful and versatile! Advertisement

Citrus peels contain a lot of natural essential oils, which gives them their strong and fresh smell. Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, and limes all have strong scents.

You can use them in your garbage disposal to release their fresh scent. You can also boil them on your stove to make your entire house smell like an orchard. Advertisement

You could even use them to clean areas of your house like your sink and bathtub. They will release their wonderful scent and clean away grime and bacteria.

You could also dry your citrus peels to use in homemade patchouli or as drawer fresheners. Advertisement

Whole spices like star anise, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, and cloves are wonderful natural fragrances .

Even if you have used them in tea or another concoction, they are often still fresh and very strong.

They are all spicy and have a strong aroma that can fill your home with a pleasant scent – making it smell like there is some gingerbread in the oven!

You can use the dried spices in homemade potpourri and drawers or air fresheners. You could also boil them on the stove to release their scent even more. Even toasting the spices on the stove is a great way to release their strong and natural aroma.

A little goes a long way with spices and can scent your entire house. Because they are so strong and hardy, spices can often be used over and over again and still smell amazing!

Baking soda may not have a scent on its own, but it is a great deodorizer. It has this amazing ability to soak up bad scents and replace them with fresh and pure air. Baking soda can make stinky areas of your home completely odorless. Advertisement

You can easily add essential oils to baking soda to deodorize and leave behind a pleasant scent. Lavender, peppermint, and citrus oils pair perfectly with baking soda.

You can deodorize certain areas of your house by putting a box or container of baking soda near bad smells. This could be the kitchen, garbage, litter box, or bathroom.

You can even sprinkle baking soda over things to deodorize them. This is great for stinky work shoes or ripe-smelling couch cushions.

If you are lucky enough to have gotten your hands on some vanilla beans, don’t waste any of them! Even after you have removed all of the edible vanilla beans, the outer skin is just as deliciously fragrant. You could use this vanilla bean skin for all kinds of purposes!

You could dry it and use it in drawer fresheners or homemade potpourri. You could also boil it on the stove to create a heavenly vanilla-scented home or infuse it into a homemade air freshener spray. You can even put it in your wax warmer with a bit of coconut oil to warm it up and disperse the aroma.

There are all kinds of creative ways that you can put that vanilla scent to good use.

Apples are a very delicious-smelling fruit that has a tendency to fill your home with its amazing scent. Ever baked an apple pie?

It is very common to have kitchen scraps from apples between coring and peeling apples. These apple food scraps can be thrown into a pot of water on the stove or into a crockpot to simmer, filling your home with a delicious apple scent.

If you really want it to smell amazing, try adding some spices. Then your home will really smell like you baked an apple pie.

Tea leaves and coffee grounds may not necessarily scent your home, but they will deodorize it. This can really come in handy in areas where bad scents tend to linger.

Both tea leaves and coffee grounds soak up the scents around them. This makes it great for placing in extra smelly areas like the bathroom and the kitchen.

You can even place these near your cat’s litter box to deodorize those less than pleasant smells.

These are great in the garbage disposal as well since scents can linger in there.
