Two cougar kittens survived after spotting four kittens under the picnic table and are currently receiving care at a veterinary hospital in California

Thousand Oaks, California - Officials say that two cougar kittens that survived four cat litters were found under the picnic table are being cared for at a Southern California veterinary hospital.

According to a statement from the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area on Thursday, the four kittens, estimated to be six weeks old, were found outside an office building near the foothills of Thousand Oaks, a suburb of Los Angeles, on November 29.

After the mother never showed up again, biologists at the state wildlife agency inspected the kittens and equipped them with small radio collars. Biologists then placed the kittens in a temporary nest monitored by cameras, hoping that the mother cat would return at night.

Officials quickly determined that the mother was either dead or abandoned the rubbish.

The statement said that two of the kittens were found dead early on December 2, and the biologist took the other two kittens to a veterinary hospital in Orange County.

These animals will be temporarily housed at the Orange County Zoo until a permanent home is found for them.
