Sometimes it's an obstacle course in the morning, especially in winter. We did our best to get to work on time, get up early, take a quick shower, then check the weather and find that the temperature is dropping. Perhaps the last thing we want to deal with is that the windows of our cars are foggy. But with only three very common materials, we no longer have to worry about this problem that will take up our precious time in the morning.

When the temperature outside the car is significantly lower than the temperature inside the car, the moisture in the air in the car will form condensation on the glass. The windshield covered by condensation is not only annoying, but most importantly it is dangerous. Over time, the fog tends to reduce and activate the air in the car dashboard, but in fact, in order to prevent the car windows from fogging, only this clever and cheap DIY system is needed.

Hygroscopic materials are those materials that can absorb moisture from the air (different from hydrophilic materials that absorb liquid water). Many of us use moisture wicking salts at home. Among the hygroscopic substances, there must be kitchen salt or paper, textile fibers or silica gel. For example, cat litter boxes contain moisture-absorbing materials that can absorb cat urine and eliminate unpleasant odors.

In the cold season, we only need three things to solve this problem: a sock, a roll of tape and some cat litter.

For our purposes, certain types of litter boxes are more suitable for this technique than others. The non-caking or silicon crystal pads seem to work better than traditional clay pads. When choosing socks, we will choose sports socks because we need materials that are as breathable as possible. Fortunately, the type of tape is not important.

This is how to do it. We need to dump the garbage into the socks. In order to keep the cuffs of the socks open during this operation, let us roll ourselves with tape. We insert the roll to keep the cuffs of the sock open. We picked up the litter box and stuffed the socks where the ankles started. At this point, we remove the tape roll and tie the sock to the level of the padding. We can also stuff it all into the second sock to increase strength.

The condensed water generated in the car will be absorbed by the garbage, thereby solving the problem of windshield fogging.

If we don’t have cats or don’t want to buy a litter box, we need to find another hygroscopic (hygroscopic) substance. Hygroscopic salts can also be used with their containers, placing them in a ventilated passenger compartment area.
