NORTHPORT, NY — Herbie, Hazel and Jethro, who come from Texas, are the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Pets of the Week.

"Imagine traveling for days, just to have the opportunity to find a loving home," Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue, told Patch. "They arrived tired, confused and nervous. However, within moments of coming out of their crates, it was clear that these fur babies just wanted and needed affection and love."

Herbie, a 4-year-old grey and white cat, has large eyes full of expression. He loves to play and crawl into one's lap, purring and asking for tons of pets. He can easily be picked up, kissed and hugged. He is feisty and funny and just a joy to be around, according to Wild.

"We tried to put him in our habitats, because that is where he would get the most exposure, and sadly he curled up into a little ball and was so nervous and sad that we had to put him back into foster care," she said. "It is totally worth it to meet this guy if you are looking for a great kitty. He is very vocal calling out for attention and love."

Jethro, aka Jet, a 4-year-old black cat, is a gentle giant, Wild said.

"He is 21 pounds of pure mush. His soulful eyes, affectionate head butts, and the best requests for belly rubs you have ever seen. He could lay on his back for hours while you pet him. If you have never held a 21-pound cat before, you are in for a real treat. It is the best hug you could ever be lucky enough to feel."

Jethro is currently at Petco Commack, hoping to be noticed amongst all the cute kittens, trying to make friends, although the kittens do not really want to play with him, according to Wild.

"He doesn’t mind so much, as long as he gets his belly rubs," she said. "Whoever adopts this baby will never regret it."

Hazel, a 6-year-old female with soft black fur, has the sweetest personality, according to Wild. She is the calm one in the group.

"Perhaps the wisest, letting them all to know to trust us New Yorkers, meowing with her soft voice, sitting in your lap, head butting for pets and licking the heads of her furry friends, to help them relax," Wild said. "She walked out of her crate the first day full of love, and we can’t wait until she knows what it feels like to have a home. She is currently in foster care with Herbie, waiting patiently for someone to request a meet and greet with her."

All three get along with other cats.

They are neutered and spayed, have all their shots, are litter box-trained, and micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative.
