Central Aroostook Humane Society has many beautiful cats of various colors and sizes, and they all need a warm home.

Many people say, “I have a cat, and I don’t think she would want to raise another cat in her territory.” Several cats are hesitant to accept a new furry family member, but there are ways to make it Play a role. Most of us have enough love for more than one animal.

PetParents.com provides some ways to introduce kittens to families with adult cats.

It is important to remember that kittens are subordinate and adult cats are dominant. Usually these encounters go smoothly, but to ensure this, you may need to take some steps.

For the first few days, put the kitten in a room alone. This will give the adult cat a chance to hear the meow and smell the kitten. Next, put the kitten in a cage, place it where the cat is, and let them look at each other. There may be some hissing and moving on, but they start to accept each other. Kittens may be smug, because this is a natural defense against anything different. She may be wary of this big cat. Continue to separate the kitten from the cat until they seem to accept each other. This may take some time, but it usually works.

When they are allowed to be together, it is important not to forget the older cats and give equal attention to each cat.

The way of associating an adult cat with another adult cat is slightly different. Adult cats are largely a product of habit, and they are not too happy about another adult cat moving in to take over, especially using the same litter box and enjoying human attention. The important thing is that the new cat walks around in the room where the cat is currently staying and leaves his scent. The important thing is that the current cat is not there. After the new cat leaves his scent, put him in a safe place and let the other cat walk around and smell his scent.

Don't put them together at first, but put one on your lap and play with it, then put it down and do the same to the other cat. In this way, both parties can know that they can trust each other by smelling each other's scent.

It is important for cats to eat together so that they can associate eating with good food and happy times. The most important thing is that each cat has its own bowl, but the bowls should be close together. After eating, both cats should be content. Hope they will groom themselves and establish contact later.

Through the following steps, kittens or cats can be brought into a family dominated by dogs very successfully. Before they meet, put the cat in a safe room or cage so that the dog can get used to her smell. Don't rush to get them together. Sometimes, if the cat swoops at the dog with its paw, the dog may be in greater danger. Never leave these two people unattended until they are social and you are satisfied with the situation. The pictures of cats and dogs huddled together that we sometimes see are really possible.
