A Philadelphia cat named Winslow has been taught to play the piano instead of yowl incessantly whenever he wants something.

The cut-up, dirty, battle-scarred kitten who was found at age 8 weeks duking it out with a dog in a back garden all those many years ago has become a “chaotic gentleman,” his owner, musician Kate Nyx, told The Independent.

“He used to run around screaming all the time and I was like, ‘This is no good,’ " Nyx said. “The piano is another way to communicate so he’s not screaming bloody murder. He was a rambunctious kitten, and he’s transformed into a chaotic gentlemen.”

It also provides a sort of music therapy for both owner and cat.

“He loved the piano as a kitten, and now we use it as a way to split up his food throughout the day to keep him on his diet,” Nyx wrote on Facebook with a video of her protégé pawing the mini-ivories.

Years before meeting Winslow, Nyx, 29, had bought the tiny piano on eBay while a student. Winslow took to the instrument immediately, she told The Independent.

“He would play the notes and look underneath trying to find where they were coming from,” she said.

Now a trained musician, Winslow “uses the piano to express himself in general, for attention, to get his litter scooped,” Nyx told The Independent. “It’s his alarm system in general.”
