"Light up the night" season kicked off

The United Way in Ellas County once again brought its annual "Light Up the Night" event to the Stephenville community. This year's event is presented by Christmas decorations.

"Light Up the Night" is scheduled to take place from December 10th to 12th and December 18th to 20th. The gate opens at 6 o’clock every night, and the last admission is at 9 p.m. The gate closes at 10 p.m.

This year's special entertainment program is scheduled to be held every Saturday night, including Studio 6:14 dance and performing arts at 7 pm on Saturday, December 11; and Stephenville High School Band at 7 pm on Saturday, December 18.

"Light Up the Night" tickets are US$10 for adults; US$5 for children 12 and under; and

Children under the age of 2 can enter for free when accompanied by an adult purchasing a ticket. Groups of 20 or more can enjoy a 20% special price in advance.

The proceeds from the "Light Up the Night" event will directly benefit Erath County United Way and its local non-profit cooperative organizations.

Parks and Rec provide text alerts

Stephenville Parks and Recreation will now provide a text alert system. 

Customers can sign up to receive text alerts from weather cancellations, registration deadlines, schedule changes, and plan updates. By subscribing, you will be able to receive alerts, but you will not be able to reply to messages.

The department will continue to send emails and post all information on social media.

Ringoville Baptist Church hosts annual live Nativity Meeting

Lingleville Baptist Church, 21543 FM 219, Dublin, will host the 7th Annual Living Christmas from December 10th to 12th.

The activity starts when it gets dark and there is a performance approximately every 30 minutes.

It features biblical characters, interactive experiences and live animals.

Hot chocolate and other refreshments will be provided.

The FCC at 450 W. Tarleton St. will host its annual holiday community party on Saturday, December 11th from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

The carol will start at 4:30 pm, and the party is scheduled for 5:30-8:30 pm

Prime Metal Building held a job fair

Prime Metal Buildings will host a job fair at their manufacturing facility on Saturday, December 11, from 9 am to noon, 19320 US-377, Dublin.

Applicants must be able to read tape measures and have very good communication skills. Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more, be punctual, and be able to work overtime when needed.

Available positions include: welder/fitter; flat wire operator; forklift operator/shipyard; painter; plasma operator; steel worker; and saw operator.

The center holds an open day at a new location

Studio 6:14, Makuhwa Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and SDUB Fitness will host a grand opening event at the new location on Saturday, December 11th from 10 am to 2 pm.

The new location is at 2900 W. Washington St.

UMC holds Christmas service for the first time

The Stephenville First United Methodist Church will host a Christmas service at 10:30 am on Sunday, December 12.

Forte' Strings will be part of the chorus and congregation music during the Sunday morning service.

The church is located at 422 W. Washington St.

The Stephenville Area Elks Lodge at 1560 W Hyman St. will host a Christmas party on Thursday, December 16th from 6:30-8:30 pm.

Holiday display on December 17

Stephenville Parks and Rec will host a holiday show at the Recreation Hall Gym on December 17th.

The door opens at 6:30 in the evening, Christmas hat decoration and hot cocoa bar.

At 7pm, they will play the holiday classic "Christmas Story".

Participants are required to bring in a piece of non-perishable food or any unnecessary winter clothes (for each participant). Donations will be donated to the Foster Children's Home in Stephenville.

V6 Ranch Weddings and Events will host a joyous Jamboree at Big Red Barn to celebrate a family-friendly holiday.

Dates and times include: December 17th from 4-10 pm; December 18th from 11 am to 10 pm; December 19th from 1-6 pm.

Attractions include: photo with Santa Claus, cookie decoration, bounce house, human snowball, farm park, face painting, sand painting and so on.

The general admission fee is US$20, and children aged 3 and under enter the venue for free. Ticket offices will provide additional event tickets.

Jamboree will be held at the Big Red Barn Wedding and Event Center, 3159 N. US Hwy 67.

The church hosts a special Christmas breakfast and service

Cross Timbers Church of Christ (Cross Timbers Church of Christ, 1515 W. Cedar St.) will host a Christmas breakfast, class and carol service from 9 am to 11 am on Sunday, December 19.

Fellow with the congregation and enjoy a free festive breakfast at 9 am, and then enjoy a special Bible reading service and Christmas carols at 10 am to tell the story of the birth of our Savior.

Gordon Center hosts Christmas tree festival

Want to do something interesting for your family this holiday season? Check out the free community Christmas tree event at the WK Gordon Museum and Research Center at Talton State University.

On display until December 23, the trees were decorated by the companies of Mingus, Gordon and Straun. Participating companies: Beneventi's Italian Restaurant, BJ's Restaurant & Bar, Deer Lease, Gordon Hardware, Mel's Diner, New York Hill Restaurant and Smokestack Restaurant.

The WK Gordon Museum and Research Center is an institution of Tarlton State University, located at 65258 Interstate 20, Exit 36​​7, Mingus, Texas, every Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday from 1 pm to Open at 4pm.

It is a comprehensive museum and special collection library located at the ruins of the ghost town of Thurber. Visitors enjoy an interactive exhibition that explores the birth, operation and death of small towns owned by Texas and Pacific Coal.

Low-impact exercise courses designed for the elderly

Join Stephenville Senior Citizen Center and Carradineman, and she will guide free, low-impact exercise programs designed for seniors. 

The course will be held every Wednesday and Friday from 9 am to 9:30 am at the Stephenville Senior Citizen Center at 164 E. College St.

The Stephenville Senior Center is hosting a Silver Classic sports class.

Join Sheryl Wells and she will guide you through a series of exercises designed to improve balance, improve aerobics, stretch and strengthen the target muscle groups at the Stephenville Senior Citizen Center.

The Superior Center hosts weekly bingo games

The Stephenville Senior Center will host a bingo game at the center at 164 E. College St. from 10 am to 11 am on Wednesday.

CCMC hosts COVID vaccination clinic

COVID-19 vaccination appointments are available on the Comanche County Medical Center campus every Wednesday. 

Doctors Medical Center clinic providers will inject two doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine every Wednesday at the clinic located at 10201 TX-16, Comanche, which is adjacent to the CCMC hospital and pharmacy. The vaccine is free and safe, and has been proven to reduce the risk of serious illness caused by COVID-19.

Choose a clinic to host pregnancy care courses

Choose the clinic, 775 S Harbin Drive. Starting this week, we will hold pregnancy care courses every Thursday at 10 am.

They will discuss prenatal care, expectations for prenatal check-ups, expectations for childbirth and childbirth, and many other things expectant mothers need to know.

Humane society requiring foster care and volunteers

Erath County Humane Society needs the following items: crystal cat litter, bleach, fabric softener, cat litter deodorant, Fabuloso, kitten food and foster care

During this period, they especially need foster care. The facility currently has 80 dogs and 92 cats. There are only four employees and one director, and they are seeking help from the community.

Senior center provides yoga classes to the public

The Stephenville Senior Citizen Center at 164 East College Street offers yoga classes to the public every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am to 11 am. 

The course will focus on quiet mindfulness and breathing control, as well as stretching and strengthening postures that end with final relaxation. This course aims to improve posture, gain flexibility and balance. 

The instructor is Robin McClinton, E-YRT 200 registered yoga teacher.

First class is free, after that, each class is $3 or $12 per month.

Choices Clinic & Life Resource Centre, 775 S. Harbin Drive, Stephenville, provides free diapers and wipes every Thursday from 9 am to noon.

In addition, the clinic provides the following services free of charge:

• Free STD testing for chlamydia and gonorrhea.

• Free treatment for a positive STD test.

• Information about pregnancy, abortion and substitutes, RU486, morning after birth control pills, adoption counseling

• Parenting, interpersonal relationship and life skills guidance

Come join the Veldhuizen Cheese Team and enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour at the Veldhuizen Family Farm.

Farm tours are offered every Saturday at 10:30 am and 1:30 pm. The sponsor will visit the farm and learn about the history of the farm and its products.

The tour fee is US$6 for adults, US$4 for children 6-12 years old, and free for children under 6 years old. Group tours are also by appointment only. Group prices start from $4/person.

If the weather is bad, the tour may be cancelled.
