I love my cat, but I can't stand the litter-I think this is something most cat owners can feel.

Thankfully, I solved this problem with the best trash can.

I adopted my kitten Ollie in December and he is very cute when he is not running around in my apartment. However, one thing about him made me crazy-my kitten threw cat litter everywhere.

To make matters worse, he likes to spill trash in every corner of the bathroom. According to cat friends on Facebook, this is something called "tracking." This became so problematic that I bought a new handheld vacuum cleaner and used it every day.

When I reached the point of vacuuming twice a day and realized that it was impossible to survive, I almost considered sending Ollie away. Well...maybe not, but I did decide to find another solution.

At that time, I found the top entrance cat litter box of Iris.

I found this trash can on Amazon's bestseller list and the reviews seemed very positive.

Despite the comments, I was hesitant, but decided to buy because the $35 price tag seemed reasonable. If it saves me from vacuuming frequently, I am willing to try anything.

A few months later, I can say that this purchase is worthwhile. Ollie uses it every day, and the amount of trash traced from the box is definitely reduced. Outside of my regular cleaning plan, I never need to perform "emergency vacuuming" tasks.

When he watched me brushing my teeth in the morning, he also liked to hang out on it.

The high wall of the trash can prevents most of the trash from spraying out when Ollie performs his usual acrobatics. Since he has to enter from the top and pass through some grooves to leave the box, any trash that would normally be caught by the claws will fall off before it falls to the ground.

The Iris litter box comes in six colors, which means you can match it to your home decor. There is also a more affordable version, but I prefer the refined look of the one I have.

Ollie may like his top litter box, but we also contacted a veterinarian to look for options approved by experts and advice on what cat owners should look for in the new box. Dr. Carly Fox, a veterinarian at the New York City Animal Medical Center, shared her secrets for choosing the perfect litter box. She also suggested that we try five good options.

Fox agrees with our love of the Iris top entrance litter box because it looks stylish and the area around the box is cleaner than other models.

Fox said that the side of the litter box is high and there is a lot of space for cats to walk around and do business.

Similar to the litter box at the top entrance, this litter box can prevent cats from littering or throwing away the litter box. According to your cat's preference, it can be set with or without a door.

The size and shape of this box are the same as a basic trash can. There is an additional benefit, that is, it has a built-in sieve tray, so there is no need to scoop the box every day.

Because of its shape and size, Fox recommends this cheap and unconventional litter box for many cats. Each cat can open up its own area without sharing it with siblings.

Want to shop by yourself? Dr. Fox explains exactly what you should look for when choosing the perfect litter box.

1. Cats like larger litter boxes: The correct litter box size depends on the size of the cat. Fox said that the length of the litter box should be as long as the length from the cat's head to the tip of the tail, and the width should be as wide as the head to the hips (minus the tail).

2. There are always multiple options for litter boxes: a good rule of thumb is to have n plus 1 litter boxes at home, which means that if you have a cat, you'd better have two litter boxes, if you With two cats, you should have three litter boxes.

3. Consider the height of the wall: If you have a kitten or a big cat with limited mobility, use a low-side box, preferably two to three inches high.

4. Keep it clean: Fox recommends scooping up dirty trash every day and thoroughly cleaning the box at least once a week.

5. Bottom line: Fox told today that choosing a litter box depends entirely on what your cat likes and is used to. If you put them on some type of trash can when they are young, they will be more likely to adapt to your preferences.
