Rochester, Minnesota (KROC AM News)-The City Management Office recommended that the Rochester City Council authorize negotiations with Threshold Arts to take over the operation of the Castle Theater.

Threshold’s proposal is one of three recently submitted to the Board of Directors.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, this historic building has basically been closed. Earlier this year, the city parted ways with an earlier operator.

One of the reasons Threshold was selected by the other two proposals is that it promises to open the building for public use most of the time, and it does not seek any funding from the city government.

The government stated that “Threshold has a long history of working with various local partners.” Threshold is currently involved in the operation of the castle and plans to build a similar model in the castle.

The staff of the city government proposed to sign a three-year rent-free agreement with Threshold.

The agreement will require the city to "continue to pay for on-site utilities, maintenance, and agreed capital improvements." The city will also purchase the necessary furniture, fixtures and equipment.
