The cake chosen by Jo Burrows is almost identical to the used trash tray, which confuses social media users.

The cunning baker from Newcastleback created the "legendary cat litter tray cake" based on rice crackers and crushed digestive biscuits into wood pellets.

Then, she melted the Quality Street candy to make it look like cat feces.

Jo, who runs the gift shop Wot Ma Like, put the cake in a real plastic trash tray to complete the piece.

Joe shared a photo of her making the cake on Facebook last week, and social media users found the cake to be funny — but not very appetizing.

The original post read: "My legendary cat litter cake: cut 12 mini martian sticks into small cubes and put them in a large pan.

"Add 4 tablespoons of golden syrup and slowly melt and stir.

"Add 300 grams of rice crackers and spread them in a litter box lined with greaseproof paper.

"Mel two pieces of chocolate and spread them on top.

"Using a rolling pin, crush a packet of strong tea biscuits and sprinkle them on the melted chocolate.

"Heat the chocolate candies on hot water and roll them into shapes with your hands. Voila!

"Score and cut into cubes for consumption-lush!"

Dozens of viewers left comments, expressing that they were impressed with the cake, but did not want to eat it.

Maureen Onions said: "Although I want to eat anything, unfortunately, I am afraid I can't let myself eat this!"

Bebe Lloyd wrote: "Oh my God-no thanks. It's so realistic!"

Anna Hughes commented: "I thought it was cat shit."

Valerie Middleton added: "Smart, but terrible!"

However, Laura Betts approved and wrote: "I want the one on the white plate!"

Talking today, Joe, the brain behind the cake, revealed that this is not the first time she has baked this strange poop candy.

She said: "In the past 12 years, I actually made that cake every Halloween!

"I have missed it a few times, and my friends and family are very upset with me!

"I initially did this because when we moved into our house, it was not in good condition, so we held a Halloween party and didn't really care whether the house was destroyed.

"So this cat litter cake somewhat fits the theme of that party.

"I always have someone wondering how I make it, so I decided to share this recipe the other day because it's so simple!

"I made that for my friend's birthday in the photo. It was a black tie event, so everyone was very smart. Then I took out the cat litter cake.

"You can imagine the reaction!"
