SCRAPS is a registered non-profit charity that has been operating in the community since 2011 and is committed to humanely stabilizing and reducing the number of wild cats in the city.

The organization is entirely run by volunteers and is supported through fundraising and donations from corporate and private community donors.

"TNR's mission is to capture and neuter, return home and release stray cats known as community cats. These cats are unowned, either reverted to the wild, or just homeless and unclaimed," SCRAPS chairman Anne Marciszyn said.

The TNR & Spay & Neuter program is dedicated to managing the population before it explodes. The plan helps reduce the number of stray cats, which will help the offspring of cats.

The organization established colonies in the community to meet the needs of wild cats. TNR makes cats a better neighbor.

“Due to space reasons, animals across Canada are being euthanized. Our goal is to work with people living outside and work hard to ensure that they do not have kittens, thereby stabilizing the number of cats,” Marciszyn said.

The cats that passed the TNR program created a healthier outdoor cat community.

SCRAPS found that the number of cats is increasing this year, which makes it difficult to obtain an official number; this year the number of kittens is also steadily increasing. SCRAPS receives an average of more than 160 cats per year.

The organization does not accept formal funding, but uses different fundraisers to raise funds for their organization.

For example, 9 Lives Boutique in Town N Country Mall is open from 12 noon to 4 pm on Fridays and 12 to 5:30 pm on Saturdays. They provide different handmade or donated items for your feline friends. This boutique also serves as an adoption center, where anyone can meet adoptable cats and kittens, or look around. There are also various store auctions. According to the COVID-19 agreement, working hours will be close to holidays.

Pizza Fur Paws is a fundraising event. Residents can buy extra-large pizzas at 9 Lives Boutique or Pet-Value for $15. Part of the funds will be used for SCRAPS. Does not include specialty pizzas. "This is a great deal," Marciszyn said.

Recycling waste and saving garbage will be carried out throughout the year. People can stop by drop n go in SARCAN to donate their recyclables. To avoid queues, just enter "SCRAPS" on the drop n go login screen and follow the instructions.

The Supurr Stars 2022 calendar is a new fundraising event. SCRAPS is laying the red carpet for all supurr stars in the community. People send photos of their pets, and these photos will appear in the calendar. These calendars will be launched soon, priced at $20 each, and can be purchased throughout the community and 9 Lives boutiques.

Other information will be passed on through the SCRAPS Facebook page.

If anyone is interested, they can also use SCRAPS membership or sponsorship.
